I started out with a box hair dye from L'oreal preference that said it would dye dark hair, it did, but only my roots because I had used box black to get out my blonde chunks in my hair from when I had pink hair. So I went on a YouTube research mission to find out the best products to use to get out box black. I decided I was going to use Color oops. I went on a trip to Sally's beauty supply to get Color oops, explained my situation to the workers there an was advised to go with a bleach to strip the colour instead because there is no guarantee with the color oops. Not wanting to waste anymore time or money I went ahead an I bought 30 volume developer and 2 packets of blue flash bleach powder and Wella colour charm gel in Nutmeg for after I bleached. I went home to start the process of lightening again. The bleach did a good job of lightening the black parts of my hair to and orangey colour. It didn't cause too much damage, just made my hair a little rough feeling so after dying it with the Wella, I used a deep conditioner to get it back to its healthy softness. I did use the Wella colour charm right after I bleached to tone everything down and was quite pleased with the results. The only thing I did not like was the shade nutmeg was more of a red dye, rather then a sandy beige brown. I did some more research online, this time about getting rid of red tones in hair. I found out I could use ash brown or blonde depending on the lightness I am trying to go.
All of this was about a month ago. Fast forward to today..... I am dying it again. I bought L'oreal Preference in LC61 extra light ash brown, also a product made for dark hair considering my roots are out about 3 inches. I will do this and show you the finished color in my next post.
